Rolling with the changes

There has been a lot happening in the past three weeks aside from the addition of little Eli. It feels as if every week something changes and keeps us on our toes. Firstly, Eli continues to be doing fantastic, starting to develop a nap pattern and making slight improvements sleeping at night. Tonight was the first time that Bryan (along with Ethan's help) gave Eli a bottle and he had no problem downing 3 1/2 ounces. Hopefully we can continue to use the bottle as a way to give me a break from feeding so much and get some needed rest. He already is starting to hold his head up for longer periods of time and has rolled over a few times, though I think it was an accident. He just looks bigger each day and is starting to fill out his clothes a bit more.
Then there is his big brother Ethan who gave us a huge scare the other day when he tripped over his scooter ending up with an injury that required us to rush him to the ER. After a 4 hour wait, we were relieved that he did not need stitches in his lip but will need to have one of his front teeth pulled as he knocked it back and the tooth is dead. He will need to have a root canal and thankfully they will put him out during the procedure. He is tough as nails, barely cried the whole time, I think I cried more than him. Ethan didn't miss a beat and was back riding his scooter like a crazy man the following day. So, he'll look like a hockey player for a few years until his adult tooth grows in. There are worse things in life and we are just thankful that he was wearing his helmet. He returns to the dentist next week after the swelling has gone down and will most likely have the procedure next week as well. Then to top it off he woke up with croup so now we are dealing with that on top of everything and I am not sure if that will affect the timing of his dental procedure, only time will tell. Oh vey!
Then, there is Bryan who resigned from his job last week and is starting a new job tomorrow. He was unhappy at his old job and was ready for a change and feels good about the new opportunity that he is undertaking, albeit it is a big one, and is excited about what the future holds. Needless to say, any change is stressful.
Finally there is me, just trying to get through each and everyday, sleep as much as I can and keep up with my boys!
**Given all that has been going on, we've had not had a chance to address our computer issues, I am working on it so I can upload some recent pictures**

Two Week Stats and Computer Meltdowns

Sorry to report that there will be no new pictures in this post as our computer has conveniently decided to crash a few days ago. Ironically we just had the entire computer cleaned out and put everything on a zip drive so hopefully we won't lose much but who knows when we'll get our act together to either get it fixed or buy a new one.

On another note, Eli is doing great and Ethan seems relatively unfazed by Eli's presence, and in fact is still enamoured with him. He demands that Eli lie in bed with us as we read books and shares his loveys with Eli, it is really very sweet. He rarely calls Eli by his name, instead referring him to as "my baby" and shows him off to anyone who will listen. Eli had his 2 week check-up today and he weighs 8lbs 3 oz and is 21". He not only regained his birth weight but gained almost another pound in 2 weeks not to mention grew an inch. Overall he is a content baby and only fusses when he is hungry, tired etc. We are working on the sleeping during the night department as he tends to get very gassy which makes sleeping hard for him and us!! My mother left on Wednesday and so far being alone with the 2 boys is going well. We go to the park, gym class, piano lessons and the grocery store...all the fun places and although we have our moments, we get through it pretty well for the most part.

Ethan continues to be doing great at his school and I was so worried he would have a tough time going back to school after the 2 week summer break and Eli's arrival but he actually goes to school better than he ever has. He loves his teacher and seems to really feel good about what he is learning and the school which is such a relief to Bryan and me. He gets so excited when I bring Eli to drop off/pick up and eagerly shows everyone his "baby".

Hopefully, we'll get our computer situation cleared up soon or else I will be continuing to use Bryan's laptop and force him to allow me to download pictures to be able to share as Eli and Ethan continue to grow and change so much each and every day!

ELI MARTIN PHILLIPS HAS ARRIVED!!!

Eli Martin Phillips arrived on his due date, September 5th weighing in at 7 pounds 4 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. I was induced since my doctor did not want me to go past my due date and had a very quick labor, only 4 1/2 hours start to finish. Similar to my labor with Ethan, by the time I asked for an epidural the doctor was not available and I was too close to delivery so I had another drug-free delivery. The delivery went fine and little Eli was a peanut compared to his big brother at birth so that made for a much easier delivery and recovery process. Ethan was so excited to come and meet his brother and is very protective of him, especially when he cries. He gets so anxious when Eli cries about anything and strokes his head and whispers "it's okay baby". He loves holding him and gets a huge kick out of it when Eli looks at him.

The first night went okay, not great as Eli was up most of the night. He had his "procedure" (aka circumcision) earlier that morning so I think he was a bit drugged out for the afternoon which led him to sleep a lot which meant he was awake well into the wee hours of the morning. So far he is much more alert today so we are keeping our fingers crossed that he has a better night. Nursing has been going well and Eli is already a pro, just like his older brother was from the start.

We came home from the hospital yesterday and have been overwhelmed by the support from neighbors, family and friends. It was a long road to get where we are and we couldn't be happier with our end result. Eli is perfect and we are so lucky to have him as part of our family.
